Use the free Fuel Cost Calculator on ToolVexa to estimate what a trip will cost in fuel. Enter the distance, your vehicle’s mileage and the fuel price, and it works out the fuel needed and the total cost.
How to Use
Enter the trip distance, the mileage in the same distance unit per unit of fuel, and the fuel price per unit. Press Calculate, and the fuel cost appears in the result box.
Formula in Plain Words
First divide the distance by the mileage to find how much fuel the trip needs. Then multiply that fuel amount by the fuel price to get the total cost.
Worked Example
For a distance of 300, a mileage of 15 and a fuel price of 2, the fuel needed is 300 divided by 15, which is 20 units, and the cost is 20 multiplied by 2, which is 40.
FAQs
What units should I use?
Use matching units: if the distance is in kilometres, the mileage should be kilometres per litre, and the price should be per litre. The cost is then in the same currency as the price.
Why does mileage matter so much?
Because the fuel needed is the distance divided by mileage, a higher mileage means less fuel for the same trip, and therefore a lower cost.
Does it include tolls or other costs?
No. It covers fuel cost only, so tolls, parking and other trip costs are not included.
