Use the free California After Tax Calculator on ToolVexa to estimate take-home pay from gross income after federal tax, California tax and other deductions.
How to Use
Enter gross income, the federal and California tax rates as percentages, and any other deductions, then press Calculate.
Formula in Plain Words
Add the two tax rates, apply the combined rate to gross income to get total tax, then subtract that tax and other deductions from gross income. Divide the result by 12 for a monthly estimate.
Worked Example
With gross income $80,000, an 18% federal rate, a 6% California rate and $2,000 of other deductions, total tax is $19,200, so after-tax income is $58,800 per year, or $4,900 per month.
FAQs
Is this my exact California take-home pay?
No. It is a simplified estimate using flat rates you enter; real payroll tax depends on brackets, credits and deductions.
What counts as other deductions?
Anything else taken from pay, such as retirement contributions or health premiums, that is not already in the two tax rates.
Why divide by 12 for the monthly figure?
Dividing annual after-tax income by 12 gives a simple average month, even though actual monthly pay can vary.
