Use the free BMR Calculator on ToolVexa to estimate your Basal Metabolic Rate. BMR is the number of calories your body uses each day at rest, just to keep breathing, stay warm and keep your organs working.
How to Use
Choose your sex, enter your weight in kilograms, height in centimetres and age in years, then press Calculate. Your estimated BMR appears in the result box below the button.
Formula in Plain Words
The Mifflin-St Jeor formula starts with ten times your weight, adds 6.25 times your height, and subtracts five times your age. Men then add 5, while women subtract 161 instead.
Worked Example
For a woman who is 60 kg, 165 cm tall and 30 years old, the calculation is 10 times 60 plus 6.25 times 165 minus 5 times 30 minus 161, which is 1320.25 calories per day.
FAQs
Is BMR the same as daily calorie needs?
No. BMR covers rest only. Your total daily needs are higher once movement and exercise are added, which is what TDEE measures.
Why does the formula differ for men and women?
On average, body composition differs, so the formula uses a different final adjustment for men and women.
Should I enter height in centimetres?
Yes, enter height in centimetres, for example 165, not in metres.
