Use the free AHI Calculator on ToolVexa to estimate the apnea-hypopnea index from apneas, hypopneas and hours of sleep.
How to Use
Enter the number of apneas, the number of hypopneas and the hours of sleep, then press Calculate.
Formula in Plain Words
Add apneas and hypopneas, then divide by hours of sleep. The result is events per hour. Common bands are: under 5 normal, 5 to under 15 mild, 15 to under 30 moderate, and 30 or more severe.
Worked Example
With 30 apneas, 20 hypopneas and 7 hours of sleep, the total is 50 events and the estimated AHI is 7.1 events per hour, in the mild range.
FAQs
Is this a diagnosis?
No. This is only a score estimate from the numbers entered; only a sleep study and a clinician can diagnose sleep apnea.
What counts as sleep time?
Use total hours actually asleep, not total time in bed, for the closest estimate.
Can the AHI be zero?
Yes, if there were no apneas or hypopneas in the sleep period.
