Use the free ACC FOV Calculator on ToolVexa to work out the horizontal field of view from your screen size and seating distance. Enter the width and distance, press Calculate, and your angle appears straight away.
How to Use
Enter the width of your screen in centimetres and how far you sit from it in centimetres, then press Calculate. The result is the horizontal field of view in degrees.
Formula in Plain Words
Divide the screen width by twice the viewing distance, take the arctangent of that result, and double it. Convert the answer from radians to degrees by multiplying by 180 divided by pi.
Worked Example
For a screen 80 cm wide viewed from 60 cm away, width divided by twice the distance is 80 divided by 120, which is 0.6667. The arctangent of 0.6667 is about 33.7 degrees, and doubling it gives a field of view of about 67.4 degrees.
FAQs
Is this the full diagonal field of view?
No, this calculator gives the horizontal field of view, which is the width-based angle most often used for racing and simulation setups.
Why does distance matter so much?
Because the angle depends on width compared with distance. Sitting closer makes the same screen fill more of your view, so the angle grows.
Can I use inches instead?
Yes, as long as both numbers use the same unit. The ratio is what matters, so inches in both boxes gives the same angle as centimetres in both.
