Use the free ACTC Calculator on ToolVexa for a simplified estimate of the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) from qualifying children, the per-child amount and earned income.
How to Use
Enter the number of qualifying children, the ACTC amount per child and earned income, then press Calculate.
Formula in Plain Words
Take the smaller of two amounts: the number of children times the per-child amount, and 15% of earned income above $2,500. That smaller amount is the simplified refundable ACTC estimate.
Worked Example
With 2 qualifying children, $1,700 per child and $30,000 of earned income, the child-based amount is $3,400 and 15% of ($30,000 - $2,500) is $4,125, so the estimate is $3,400.
FAQs
Is this the official ACTC calculation?
No. This is a simplified estimate only and is not tax advice; official eligibility, phase-outs and forms can change the result.
Why is earned income used?
In this simplified model, the refundable part is limited by earned income, which is why low earned income can reduce the estimate.
What if earned income is below $2,500?
Then 15% of the amount above $2,500 is treated as $0, so the estimate is $0 in this model.
