Use the free AFP Calculator on ToolVexa to work out an alpha-fetoprotein result as a multiple of the median (MoM) from a measured value and the median value for the same stage of pregnancy.
How to Use
Enter the measured AFP value and the median AFP value for the same stage of pregnancy, then press Calculate.
Formula in Plain Words
Divide the measured AFP value by the median AFP value. The result is expressed as a multiple of the median, or MoM.
Worked Example
With a measured AFP of 45 ng/mL and a median of 30 ng/mL, the result is 45 divided by 30 = 1.50 MoM.
FAQs
What does MoM mean?
MoM stands for multiple of the median. A value of 1.00 MoM means the measured value equals the median.
Is this a diagnosis?
No. AFP results need to be read together with gestational age, other screening results and clinical advice.
What units should I use?
Use the same units for both numbers, for example ng/mL for both, so the units cancel in the division.
